Just across the bay from Old San Juan, Casa BACARDÍ in Cataño is one of Puerto Rico’s most-visited attractions, and for good reason. It’s part history museum, part working rum tasting room, with five different tour formats depending on how deep you want to go. Here’s what’s actually on offer.
What Makes Casa BACARDÍ Different
BACARDÍ’s Puerto Rico roots go back generations, and the visitor pavilion at Carretera 165 KM 6.2 in Cataño leans into that history: heritage exhibits, a historical film, and guided tastings that range from an introductory pour to a barrel-side sample of aged rum. It’s a polished, air-conditioned experience that works well as a half-day stop, especially paired with Old San Juan.
Tour Options and Pricing
All tours require guests to be 18 or older. As of our last check (September 2026), pricing was:
Legacy Tour: $40 + tax, 50 minutes. Guided walk through the BACARDÍ heritage exhibits and historical film, a rum tasting, a welcome cocktail (Mojito, Daiquiri, or Cuba Libre), plus pavilion and gift shop access.
The Maestro’s Walk: $80 + tax, 90 minutes. Warehouse access with a taste of rum straight from an aging barrel and a premium aged-rum tasting. Closed-toe shoes required.
Mixology Class: $80 + tax, 75 minutes. Hands-on cocktail-making (two drinks), plus a welcome cocktail and pavilion access.
Founder’s Experience: $125 + tax, 120 minutes. Private warehouse access, a guided tasting of four premium aged rums, and a private room in a small group capped at 15 people. Offered at 11:00am and 3:00pm; closed-toe shoes required.
90 Años al Ritmo de PR (Spanish-language tour): $65 + tax, 45 minutes. Runs Saturdays and Sundays at 11:30am and 4:30pm. Closed-toe shoes required.
Getting There
Casa BACARDÍ sits on the Cataño side of San Juan Bay. The most popular route from Old San Juan is the AquaExpreso ferry to Cataño, followed by a short taxi or rideshare to the pavilion; driving and parking on-site is also an option if you’re coming from elsewhere on the island.
Is It Worth It?
With 6,919 reviews and a 4.3-out-of-5 rating on TripAdvisor, and a #1 ranking among things to do in Cataño, and Casa BACARDÍ is a reliably good half-day stop, though the entry-level Legacy Tour is the better fit if you’re mainly there for the history and a taste rather than a deep dive. Prices and tour times are set by BACARDÍ directly and are worth double-checking before you book, since they do change.
