The west coast moves slower than San Juan. Rincón is the surf town, Aguadilla has Crash Boat Beach and its own airport, Cabo Rojo has the lighthouse and the salt flats, and La Parguera, in Lajas, is the base for boat trips to the cays and the bioluminescent bay.
It is too far for a comfortable day trip from San Juan, so most people stay a few nights. These are the best-rated tours on this side of the island with open dates.

Good to know before you go
- Rincón and Aguadilla are roughly two to two and a half hours from San Juan by car. Aguadilla’s airport (BQN) has direct flights from some US cities.
- Winter brings the big surf to Rincón. Summer seas are calmer and better for snorkeling and diving.
- La Parguera is the bio bay where tours let you swim. As everywhere, darker nights show the glow best.
- You need a car on this side of the island. Ride-share is scarce outside the main towns.
